Job summary

JM Test Systems seeks an Electrical Safety Technician to test, certify, and calibrate high-voltage safety equipment across lab and customer sites. You will handle dielectric testing, inspections, and documentation, ensuring adherence to ASTM/OSHA/NETA standards while working with gloves, hots sticks, cables, and meters.

You must be technically adept, safety-conscious, and able to travel regionally with overnight stays; lab and field environments demand hands-on work and strict PPE usage.

Qualifications

JobSummary — The Opportunity

Line workers and electricians trust their gloves, hotsticks, and voltage detectors with their lives. As an Electrical Safety Technician, you'll make sure that trust is well placed, testing and certifying the equipment that keeps people safe around high voltage.

In this role, you will work in both our Mount Braddock lab and at customer sites across the region, with travel and overnight stays required, performing high-voltage dielectric testing, inspection, calibration, and certification of electrical safety equipment and test instruments. You'll work with insulated rubber goods, hot sticks, grounding cables, and meters, making sure each item meets ASTM, OSHA, or NETA standards and manufacturer specifications.

KeyResponsibilities & Outcomes
  • Test andcertify safety equipment. Perform functional and high-voltage dielectrictesting on insulated gloves, sleeves, blankets, line hoses, hot sticks, grounding cables, and voltage detectors to confirm they meet safety standards.
  • Keepinstruments accurate. Test, calibrate, and troubleshoot low- andmedium-voltage test instruments, including multimeters and clamp meters.
  • Catchproblems before they reach the field. Identify non-conformances and flagfailed items for repair or decommissioning.
  • Documenteverything. Maintain accurate testing and inspection records that meetcompany and accreditation requirements.
  • Keep thelab ready. Safely operate test benches and voltage sources, support setup,teardown, and preventive maintenance of test stations, and track inventory ofequipment, tools, and materials.
  • Communicateclearly. Share test results and status with supervisors, teammates, andcustomers.
  • Worksafely, always. Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE whenworking in high-voltage environments.
WhatYou Bring
  • Required:High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Required:Basic understanding of electrical safety concepts and equipment, andcomfort working with high-voltage equipment under strict safety procedures.
  • Required:Strong attention to detail and excellent record-keeping skills.
  • Required:Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Required:Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically active environment, bothindoors and outdoors.
  • Required:Willingness to travel regularly, including overnight stays.
  • Preferred:Associate's degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology,Electronics, or a related field.
  • Preferred:Experience in a calibration, test lab, ISO 17025 accredited lab, orindustrial electrical setting, and familiarity with NETA, ASTM, or ANSIstandards.
Schedule & Work Environment

This role splits time between the lab and the field:

  • 40-hour week, Monday through Friday, withovertime and weekends as needed
  • Lab (indoor) and field (outdoor) work, includingmobile labs and travel trailers
  • Regional travel with overnight stays required(see Travel Incentives)
