Job summary

JM Test Systems is seeking a Field Calibration Technician for a 100% mobile role servicing South Central, Southern, and Gulf Coast Texas. You will travel to customer sites to calibrate, repair, and certify instruments, applying measurement science to ensure accuracy across electrical, dimensional, physical, mechanical, and optical disciplines.

This is a road‑centric position and you’ll work independently with onsite managers and staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; associate's degree or technical training preferred.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply calibration procedures.
• Willingness to travel extensively as described above.

Responsibilities

• Receive job assignments and determine priorities for each site visit.
• Assess instrument condition and diagnose service requirements.
• Clean instruments per code specifications and sensitivity requirements.
• Develop calibration procedures and methods per specifications.
• Collect and record calibration data for records.
• Analyze data to identify out-of-tolerance conditions and perform adjustments or replacements.
• Certify instruments by verifying performance standards.
• Document measurements, certifications, and calibration reports for customers.
• Complete service documentation timely and accurately.
• Represent JM Test Systems professionally and provide excellent customer service.

Calibration Technician – Onsite/Field (100% Travel)

JM Test Systems is looking for a Field Calibration Technician for a 100% mobile, onsite role servicing South Central, Southern, and Gulf Coast Texas region. You'll travel to customer sites across the region to calibrate, repair, and certify test instruments, applying measurement science principles to ensure accuracy in electrical, dimensional, physical, mechanical, and/or optical disciplines. This is a road‑centric position: you'll be on‑site with customers the vast majority of the year, working independently with support from onsite managers and administrative staff.

What To Expect

• Travel is the core of this job: the goal is 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year (minus PTO and holidays)
• Overnight stays required
• This schedule is not occasional; it's the standing expectation of the role, so genuine flexibility to travel extensively is a must
• Initial training at the Wichita/Clute Lab and onboarding will prepare you for onsite work, then you'll work closely with onsite managers and administrative staff for day-to-day direction and scheduling (estimated 6 weeks of training).

What You'll Do

• Receive job assignments and determine priorities and details for each site visit
• Assess test instrument condition and diagnose service requirements
• Clean instruments in accordance with code specifications and sensitivity requirements
• Research and develop calibration procedures and methods per technical specifications, blueprints, and drawings
• Collect, compile, and record accurate calibration data for all record‑keeping requirements
• Analyze measurement data to identify abnormalities or out-of-tolerance conditions and perform corrective actions (adjustments, component replacement, correction factors, etc.)
• Certify test instruments by verifying they meet performance standards
• Document all measurements, certifications, and calibration reports for return to the customer
• Complete all service documentation in a timely and accurate manner
• Represent JM Test Systems professionally while providing excellent customer service

What You'll Need

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree, technical trade school, or military training in measurement science, calibration, or a related field preferred
• Ability to perform general math, algebra, and statistical equations
• Basic computer and software application skills
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply calibration procedures
• Ability to establish priorities and work independently with limited supervision
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
• Ability to work indoors/outdoors in varying temperatures and conditions
• Ability to sit, stand, bend, walk, and climb stairs
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively as described above
