Job summary

Garney Construction is seeking a Safety Specialist to support the implementation and execution of jobsite safety programs to ensure a safe work environment. This role promotes safety culture through training, inspections, hazard identification, and employee engagement while ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.

The position serves as a field safety resource responsible for education, guidance, and proactive incident prevention.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• 2+ years construction experience and 1+ year in a safety role (3+ years preferred).
• Working knowledge of OSHA 1926 standards and construction safety practices.
• Strong communication, organization, and training skills.
• OSHA 30, 500, EM385, CHST, or equivalent; CPR/First Aid Trainer; OSHA 510 required.
• OSHA 500, CHST or other relevant safety certifications preferred.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform jobsite safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
• Track and follow up on corrective actions to support incident prevention.
• Assist in developing safe work plans, task hazard analyses, and site-specific procedures.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company safety programs.
• Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and training to field teams.
• Serve as a safety resource for employees and project leadership.
• Promote a strong safety culture through engagement and accountability.
• Maintain safety documentation, reporting, and records.
