Job summary

The University of Utah IT Specialist position delivers comprehensive desktop, Windows and Mac support for contracted clients. It requires concierge-level service, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to learn new processes in a high-demand environment.

This onsite role includes on-call responsibilities outside normal hours and travel to campus locations as needed. Guidance comes from Senior Systems Administrators and department managers to ensure effective integration within UIT

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 4 years of related work experience, or Master’s with 2 years.
• Experience supporting Windows and macOS environments and peripherals.
• Ability to learn new processes and work in a professional, demanding setting.

Responsibilities

• Image, configure, deploy and support desktop, laptop, iPad, cellphone, software/operating systems, disk storage connectivity.
• Configure and support conference room and other technologies for specialized areas of support.
• Manage and maintain Microsoft Windows and Apple OS systems.
• Track and document problems, issues, settings and solutions for IT systems.
• Review and create system process and procedure documentation.
• Perform inventory and retirement processes.
• Utilize automative and approved standards and processes.
• Perform project management planning, documentation, organization and implementation.
• Utilize the department ticketing system to track work tickets and time.
• Trouble shooting client, server or systems for problem resolution.
• Assist with network documentation, configuration, routing and securing.
• Work as a team member as well as autonomously.
• Travel on and off campus locations for IT support and equipment transport.
• Follow University and departmental processes, procedures, guidelines, etc.
• On call support and maintenance activities. Expected to be available outside of normal business hours for client needs, events, server, desktop or system upgrades or updates which need to be completed outside of normal business hours.
