Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a part-time paraeducator to provide one-on-one and small group support to a ninth grade student with disabilities during the school day. The position requires completion of the General Paraeducator Certificate and ongoing district training.

Responsibilities include instructional support, personal care tasks, data collection on progress toward IEP goals, and collaboration with licensed staff. Training and certification are required within specified timeframes.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 72 credit hours of post-secondary education.
• Knowledge of working with students with disabilities preferred.
• Ability to work with background and behavior supports.

Responsibilities

• Provides instruction to students individually or in small groups as directed by teacher.
• Assists with self-care activities (dressing, feeding, toileting) as needed.
• Supervises students during recess, lunch, and bus loading/unloading.
• Records student progress and maintains communication with staff and parents.
• Assists in adapting materials and activities for students with disabilities.
• Supports with transportation and field trips as needed.
• Assists in administering tests and uses adaptive equipment.
• Participates in staff meetings and reports on student progress.
• May use basic sign language and monitor safety during activities.
• May prepare and serve meals or snacks for students.
• Maintains student records and data for IEP goals.
• Assists with daily living activities and personal care tasks for students.
• Assists teacher with behavioral management and conflict resolution.
• Coordinates scheduling of students to use equipment and supports.
• Maintains attendance and reliability as an essential requirement.
• Provides clerical support and duplicates materials as needed.
• Covers duties as assigned to ensure continuity of instruction.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
