Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a dedicated paraeducator to support a Grade 2 student with disabilities during the school day. You will work under a certificated teacher to deliver instructional and personal care support, helping with data collection and IEP-related goals.

Requires completion of the General Paraeducator Certificate and district training (28 hours FCS within four months, then the rest by September 1 of the next year).

Qualifications

• General Paraeducator Certificate required; 28 hours of FCS training within four months and the rest by six months after hire.
• Associate degree or 72 college credits or passing state test to demonstrate knowledge and ability.
• Experience with students who have disabilities is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one instructional and personal care support to a Grade 2 student with disabilities.
• Assist certificated teacher with instructional activities and data collection toward IEP goals.
• Supervise during recess and lunch; support bus loading/unloading as needed.
• Prepare progress notes, communicate with teachers and parents, and maintain records.
• Assist with adaptive activities, sign language as needed, and safety monitoring.
• Administer medications as trained and assist with routine classroom tasks.
• Support field trips, adapt materials, and participate in staff meetings.
