Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools seeks a Paraeducator to provide one-on-one assistance and classroom support for students with disabilities during the school day.

The role involves instructional and personal care tasks, collaboration with certificated staff, and participation in required training. The position requires completion of the General Paraeducator Certificate program and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 72 credit hours and ability to assist students with disabilities.
• Completion of General Paraeducator Certificate program and 28 hours of FCS training within required timelines.
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to be trained within 90 days.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist with daily living activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students individually or in small groups as directed by the teacher.
• Assist with self-care activities and daily living tasks as needed.
• Supervise students during recess, lunch, and bus loading/unloading.
• Record student progress and communicate with staff and parents as assigned.
• Follow district discipline policies and assist in maintaining a safe learning environment.
• Assist in adapting materials and administering tests as directed.
