Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a paraeducator to provide instructional and personal care support for an 8th-grade student in the ACCESS program. The role emphasizes individualized assistance, behavior support, data collection, and collaboration with teachers.

The position requires the General Paraeducator Certificate with district-mandated training; CPR/First Aid and background checks are part of the onboarding process.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 72 credit hours or passing state test to demonstrate knowledge and ability to assist in instructing students; one year of experience with special needs desirable.
• Completion of General Paraeducator Certificate program with required training and timelines as stated.
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to be trained within 90 days of employment.
• Ability to assist students with disabilities and provide instructional and personal care support.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students individually or in small groups as directed by the teacher.
• Assist with activities of daily living and personal care under supervision.
• Supervise students during routines and transitions, and assist bus loading/unloading as needed.
• Maintain records of student progress and communicate with teachers and parents as assigned.
• Assist with adaptive equipment, sign language basics, and safety planning.
• Participate in staff meetings and coordinate with district staff as required.
