Job summary

AbleLight seeks an SLS Instructor in Mission Viejo, CA to provide one-on-one instruction and training that promotes independence and community integration. The role acts as an advocate and liaison for individuals receiving support, building strong personal relationships, and maximizing community participation.

Qualifications

• At least 6 months direct supervision in the field of working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general regulations.
• Ability to write legible and accurate notes relating to an individual’s goals/objectives.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions to the consumer, circle of support, Regional Center and/or general public.
• Able to speak English and any language based on the individual needs.
• Ability to use independent judgement during services and emergencies.
• Possess a cell phone to be used to communicate with management and complete payroll responsibilities (view schedule, submit Time-Off request, punch in/out, and other duties).

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision to the individual during employment preparation and skill-building activities.
• Offer instruction and supervision on communication devices (Braille, Sign Language, augmentative devices).
• Train in mobility, including access to public transportation and understanding routes.
• Assist with enrollment processes for classes and financial aid, and support with attendance and assignments.
• Teach money management, budgeting, and shopping skills.
• Provide supervision in self-help and daily living tasks, including personal hygiene and dressing.
• Support access to Medi-Cal, SSI, and other public programs.
• Promote health, nutrition, and adherence to medication guidelines (not administering medication).
• Foster safety awareness, emergency preparedness and safe community participation.
• Encourage personal advocacy and informed decision-making.
