Job summary

Bethesda is seeking an SLS Instructor to provide individualized instruction to empower independent living for clients with developmental disabilities in California. The role emphasizes advocacy, relationship-building and maximizing community participation.

The position focuses on employment prep, communication support, mobility, education planning, budgeting, safety, and access to community resources, with an emphasis on dignity and empowerment.

Qualifications

• At least 6 months direct supervision in the field of working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general regulations.
• Ability to write legible and accurate notes relating to an individual’s goals/objectives.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions to the consumer, circle of support, Regional Center and/or general public.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one instruction to encourage independence.
• Serve as advocate and liaison for individuals supported.
• Assist in maximizing community integration.
• Supervise employment preparation activities (resume, interviews, etc.).
• Support mobility training and transportation access.
• Assist with education planning and class enrollment.
• Support budgeting and money management.
• Teach personal and public safety skills and emergency preparedness.
