Job summary

Shenandoah Oncology, part of The US Oncology Network, is seeking a Patient Financial Counselor to guide patients through insurance benefits, financial responsibilities, and available resources. This full-time onsite role supports a compassionate, detail-oriented team focused on excellent patient service during the cancer journey.

The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, attention to detail, empathy, and professionalism, with several years of medical office experience and a commitment

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum three years of medical business office experience with insurance procedures and patient interaction.
• Preferred: Prior experience as a Patient Financial Counselor.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and enters insurance, demographic, and eligibility data accurately.
• Performs insurance verification on all third-party payers and obtains pre-authorizations.
• Re-verifies benefits and obtains approvals after treatment plan discussion.
• Uses the Summary of Patient Reimbursement and Liability form and obtains necessary approvals.
• Performs financial counseling on patient obligations and payment arrangements.
• Documents counseling and forwards to Billing Office.
• Assists patients in obtaining financial assistance and outside resources.
• Collects co-pays, deductibles, and other out-of-pocket amounts at visit.
• Maintains manuals/logs and protects patient confidentiality.
• Supports front office functions and assists with other duties.
