Job summary

American Oncology Network is seeking a Financial Counselor to act as the patient advocate for financial navigation during cancer care. You will review insurance coverage, estimate patient responsibility, and coordinate prior authorizations and benefit verification to ensure access to treatment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate's Degree or higher in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field preferred.
• A minimum of two years experience in the healthcare field, preferably healthcare financial counseling, patient access, or medical billing.
• Demonstrated knowledge verifying pre-certification and/or prior authorization with medical insurance.
• Experience with patient assistance programs and financial aid resources preferred.
• Ability to calculate and collect patients’ responsibility and insurance co-pay/coinsurance.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary patient advocate for financial navigation and counseling.
• Review insurance coverage, establish financial responsibility estimates, and coordinate prior authorizations and benefit verification.
• Explain forms and paperwork for assistance and grant programs; assist with completing necessary applications.
• Monitor aging balances and establish payment arrangements with patients; work with external organizations to secure financial aid when needed.
