Job summary

CLFC Healthcare and Communications seeks an optometrist to provide on-site eye and vision care at North Carolina state-operated facilities for adults and children with complex needs.

Position is independent contractor, part-time, per-assignment, with weekday daytime hours and no nights or weekends. Compensation is $130–$140 per hour, with mileage reimbursed at the GSA rate, and approximately 96 hours per facility per year.

Qualifications

• OD from an accredited school or college of optometry.
• Active, unrestricted North Carolina optometry license or eligibility to obtain licensure before start.
• Clinical optometry experience.
• Not debarred or excluded from Medicare/Medicaid.
• Ability to clear background screening and meet facility health screening and vaccination requirements, including influenza vaccination.
• Comfort working with vulnerable adult and pediatric populations in a secure state facility setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive eye and vision examinations for adult and pediatric residents.
• Diagnose and manage ocular conditions, and prescribe or fit corrective lenses and treatment as indicated.
• Adapt examination technique for residents with IDD or behavioral health needs.
• Coordinate with facility staff on resident eye-care plans.
• Provide written clinical findings to facility staff on the day of the clinic.
• Refer to ophthalmology when indicated and record the referral reason.
