Job summary

JLL in Richmond, VA seeks an experienced Chief Engineer to lead all building systems and a 5-person engineering team at a large Class A office building. On-site 8am–5pm, with on-call rotation, in a 951,897 sq ft property downtown.

The role emphasizes preventive and predictive maintenance, safety programs, and tough client communications while driving budgets and capital plans. On-site expertise is essential for daily operations.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of related experience, especially as a Chief Engineer or similar role.
• People management experience and leadership of a team.
• Trade school education, union training, military service or college is desirable.
• Universal CFC EPA certification is required.
• Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams).
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Comfort using ladders up to 30 feet tall.
• Ability to climb, bend, kneel, lift and/or drive as needed.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems.
• Supervise and manage engineers and maintenance staff including hiring, training and development.
• Create and routinely update a preventive/predictive maintenance plan.
• Participate in client-facing and property team communications.
• Lead and manage the engineering budget and participate in the operating budget process.
• Assist in developing a capital improvement plan.
• Direct contractors; monitor performance and document results.
• Respond to emergencies and service calls promptly.
• Lead ongoing safety and operational training programs and procedures.
• Support other duties as requested by property management/team.
