Job summary

Layton Construction is seeking an Assistant Project Manager for an on-site role that may require relocation to project sites nationwide. The role supports planning, budgeting, scheduling, and coordination across multiple projects to meet quality and profitability goals.

You will manage procurement, subcontract negotiations, and client relationships, while mentoring engineers and ensuring safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3+ years of experience in ground-up commercial construction projects.
• Excellent communication and strong negotiation skills.
• Understanding of construction laws, codes, and blueprints.
• Ethics and policy adherence, problem solving, and teamwork.
• Ability to plan actions, allocate resources, and work with minimal supervision.
• Professional affiliations (e.g., AGC) and credentials (e.g., PE) are a plus.
• Spanish commands and basic instructions in construction preferred.

Responsibilities

• Champions Layton Way by delivering predictable outcomes for teams and customers.
• Assist in preparation of estimates, budgets, and cost reports.
• Organize pre-construction planning meetings and negotiate subcontracts.
• Develop project management plan and ensure successful execution of contracts.
• Manage procurement, schedule, and monthly client pay requests.
• Monitor quality, safety, and risk management plans.
• Coordinate close-out procedures, including permits, draw requests, and manuals.
• Mentor project and field engineers and review submittals and RFIs.
• Update software for collaboration and document management.
• Build owner relationships and support post-completion reviews.
