Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an On-call, Part-Time Field Archaeologist for our offices in Louisville, KY; Lexington, KY; Kansas City, MO; Ballwin, MO; and Jefferson City, MO. This role involves fieldwork across multiple sites, with potential for long-term assignments and possible full-time employment based on workload.

You will assist with Phase I/II testing, document findings, and identify artifacts while collaborating with a field team and maintaining safety and conduct standards.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, historic preservation, or related field.
• Archaeological field school experience is required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
• Self-motivated and physically able to conduct fieldwork in all weather conditions.
• Willingness to travel 100% of the time and work across multiple Missouri/Southeast locations.

Responsibilities

• Assist field projects during Phase I and II testing (pedestrian reconnaissance, shovel tests, test units).
• Document findings with detailed notes, soil descriptions, and field forms.
• Assist in artifact identification and documenting archaeological deposits.
• Collaborate effectively as part of a field team.
• Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and safety policies.
