Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an On-call, Part-Time Field Archaeologist to support field projects across Louisville, Lexington, Kansas City, Ballwin, and Jefferson City. The role involves Phase I/II testing, site reconnaissance, and artifact documentation in a team setting.

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in archaeology, field school experience, and strong communication skills. Travel to multiple sites is required; relocation not included.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, historic preservation, or related field.
• Archaeological field school completed.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated and physically able to conduct fieldwork in all weather conditions and follow instructions.
• Location in the southeast or Missouri and surrounding states is preferred; opportunities to work in other states possible.

Responsibilities

• Assist with field projects during all phases of archaeological testing (Phase I and II).
• Perform pedestrian reconnaissance, shovel tests, and test unit excavation supervised by a Field Director.
• Document findings with detailed notes, including soil descriptions and field forms.
• Assist in prehistoric and historic artifact identification and documentation of deposits.
• Work as part of a team and adhere to safety and ethical policies.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
