Job summary
BKF is hiring an on-call Construction Inspector to perform on-site inspections and ensure work complies with contract requirements and permits. Responsibilities include inspecting varied projects, advising engineers, taking samples, reviewing submittals, utilities checks, and maintaining diaries and records.
A college degree or 5 years in transportation or civil projects, plus 4+ years in inspection, and a valid California driver’s license are required.
Qualifications
- College degree or minimum 5 years’ work experience with Transportation or Civil related projects
- 4+ years of experience in the supervision or inspection of engineering construction work including reading and interpreting complex construction plans and specifications
- Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driver’s record are required
Responsibilities
- Inspects and reports on a variety of construction projects
- Advises Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and informs contractors of variances from approved plans and specs
- Takes samples of materials, prepares test specimens, and assists in field tests or refers samples for lab analysis
- Checks location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work
- Inspects earthwork grading, asphalt placement, and concrete placement and reinforcing steel
- Reviews contractor traffic control plans and field traffic control; reviews project safety
- Maintains daily diary, photo log, and contract quantities
- Maintains material and inspection records
