Job summary

BKF Engineers seeks an on-call Construction Inspector to perform onsite inspections and verify that work complies with contract requirements and permits. Responsibilities include documenting field conditions, reviewing submittals, coordinating with the Resident Engineer, and assisting with safety, traffic control, and QA on transportation projects.

Candidate must have a college degree or 5+ years' civil experience and a valid CA driver's license.

Qualifications

• College degree or minimum 5 years' work experience with Transportation or Civil projects.
• 4+ years of experience in supervision or inspection of engineering construction work.
• Valid California Class C driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and reports on a variety of construction projects
• Advises Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and informs contractors of variances from plans
• Takes samples of materials, prepares test specimens, and assists in field tests or refers samples for lab analysis
• Checks the location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work
• Checks roadway/slope/structure grades, flow lines, and locations of structures
• Reviews contractor's traffic control plans and field traffic control; review project safety
• Inspects earthwork grading, placement of asphalt concrete, proportions, and control of mixes
• Inspects delivery, placing, and curing of concrete and the placing of reinforcing steel
• Assists PM in review of project submittals, RFI's, CCO's
• Verifies acceptability of material incorporated into the project by Certificates of Compliance, shop drawings, test reports
• Maintains material and inspection records
• Maintains a daily diary, photo log, contract item quantities
• Other duties as assigned
