Job summary

BKF Engineers is seeking an On Call Construction Inspector to perform onsite inspections ensuring compliance with contract requirements and permits. The role involves evaluating diverse construction activities, supporting project teams, and maintaining detailed records of inspections and tests.

The candidate should have a college degree (or 5+ years in Transportation or Civil projects), 4+ years of inspection supervision, and a valid California driver license.

Qualifications

• College degree or minimum 5 years' work experience with Transportation or Civil related projects.
• 4+ years of experience in the supervision or inspection of engineering construction work including reading and interpreting complex construction plans and specifications.
• Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driver's record are required.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and reports on a variety of construction projects.
• Advises Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and informs contractors of variances from approved plans and specifications.
• Takes samples of materials, prepares test specimens, and assists in conducting field tests or refers samples for laboratory analysis.
• Checks location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work.
• Reviews contractor's traffic control plans and field traffic control; review project safety.
• Inspects earthwork grading, asphalt concrete, proportions, and control of mixes.
• Assists PM in review of project submittals, RFIs, CCOs.
• Verifies acceptability of material incorporated into the project by Certificates of Compliance, shop drawings, test reports.
