Job summary

Washington State Department of Social and Health Services seeks a Boiler Operator (Stationary Engineer 2) for on‑call coverage at Eastern State Hospital and Lakeland Village. The role begins with 1.5–2 months of full‑time, paid training (40 hours/week) before transitioning to an on‑call schedule.

Responsibilities include operating, monitoring, and maintaining high‑ and low‑pressure boilers, reacting to after‑hours incidents, and ensuring safe plant operation within boiler rooms.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience operating, maintaining, and/or repairing stationary or marine high‑pressure boilers and heating systems.
• Or a completed advanced Stationary Engineer course plus two years of related experience.
• Or one year of State service as a Stationary Engineer 1.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe, efficient operation and maintenance of high‑ and low‑pressure boiler plants/boiler rooms.
• Operate, monitor, and repair gauges, valves, metering pumps, boilers, and electronic control/safety equipment.
• Work exclusively within boiler plants/boiler rooms with auxiliary systems serving the boilers.
• Troubleshoot and adjust boiler operations and combustion control systems.
• Interpret schematics, drawings, and manuals for equipment operation and upgrades.
• Test boiler equipment for safety and perform chemical treatment and cleaning of boiler water.
