Job summary

Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) Rainier is seeking a Boiler Operator (Stationary Engineer 2) in Buckley, WA. This on‑call role begins with a six‑month full‑time temporary period to support onboarding, then transitions to on‑call as needed, including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

The position requires operating a high‑pressure steam plant, maintaining equipment, and ensuring safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in operation, maintenance, and/or repair of stationary or marine high‑pressure boilers and heating systems
• Advanced Stationary Engineer course from an accredited school with two years of related boiler experience
• One year of State service as a Stationary Engineer 1

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe, efficient operation of a high‑pressure steam plant with two boilers
• Inspect and repair gauges, valves, pumps, boilers, and safety equipment for continuous operation
• Operate and maintain feed‑water, condensate pumps, deaerators, air compressors, fuel systems, and emergency generators
• Troubleshoot boiler and HVAC systems and perform repairs as needed
• Interpret schematics and manuals to support operation and upgrades
• Operate Cleaver‑Brooks Boiler Management (HAWK) systems as required
• Conduct water testing, treatment, and blow‑down procedures for compliance
