BMCC Hermiston is seeking a front office receptionist to greet visitors, answer phones, route messages, open and close the building, and support instructors and staff with classroom and video conferencing needs.

The role requires strong organization, the ability to multi-task, and a high level of customer service. Spanish/English bilingual preferred; willingness to work flexible hours 8:00 am–8:00 pm; may lift 20–30 pounds and travel between BMCC locations as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must have high school education or equivalent.
  • At least one year of receptionist or office experience.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greets the public and answers telephone calls; routes calls and messages.
  • Opens and closes the building; monitors security and building usage.
  • Manages use of office equipment and coordinates room use for classes.
  • Assists instructors and staff with Zoom videoconferencing and communications.
  • Maintains FERPA confidentiality and proctors tests in the testing center.
  • May be required to make bank deposits and travel to other BMCC locations.

Job description

Position SummaryResponsible for BMCC Hermiston front office and clerical duties. Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan.Essential FunctionsGreets the public and answers telephone calls; assists students, staff, the public with questions, giving information as appropriate; routes calls and walk-ins to appropriate personnel; takes and delivers messages.Opens and closes the building (depending on work schedule) at the beginning and end of the day.Check doors periodically during working hours. Is aware of use and security of building and contents during working hours.Monitors heat, air, lights, security system. Calls for repairs and adjustments as needed.Monitors the use of all office equipment, including the copy machine.Is familiar with the scheduled room use for BMCC Hermiston classes and assists students and instructors as needed in those areas. Also assists outside groups using the facility for meetings or trainings.Coordinates efforts with other BMCC Office staff and assists with filing, keyboarding, computer entry and student/staff communications, as necessary.Assists instructors and staff with the operations of interactive video conferencing (ZOOM).Maintain the confidentiality and security of protected student information in accordance with FERPA regulations.Proctors tests in the testing center.Other duties as assigned.Other Aspects of this PositionMust be willing to work flexible hours between 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, Monday–Friday.Must be able to lift boxes of 20 to 30 pounds.Bi-lingual skills in Spanish/English, preferred.Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.May be required to make bank deposits and travel to other BMCC locations when needed, valid driver’s license required.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesIndividuals must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:Must be well-organized, be able to multi-task and meet deadlines.Ability to communicate using correct grammar, syntax, and spelling.Well developed interpersonal and communication skills.Must understand, possess, and use a high level of customer service when dealing with all constituents of the college.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel and Outlook.Must be able type and use adding machine accurately.Must be able to operate cash register, count money, and balance money transactions.Prepare and make bank deposits, when needed.Ability to effectively and efficiently use BMCC Enterprise Resource Planning and Learning Management Systems.Ability to receive certifications to proctor multiple tests.An alert sense of security and awareness of physical surroundings, required.Must be sensitive to and understand the diverse socioeconomic, academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.Required Education and ExperienceA high school education or equivalent.At least one year of prior receptionist or office experience.
