Job description

This position is not designated as a safety/security sensitive position and is not subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

JOB OBJECTIVE: To compute and collect fees for the dumping of solid waste at the City Landfill and to direct citizens and commercial haulers to the proper dumping areas.

    Locks and unlocks Landfill gate, office, and the Landfill safe in the office building daily and prepares cash register for the daily receipts; ensures the alarm system is on at close of business each day.
    Operates computer scales to determine the appropriate fee to charge vehicles entering the Landfill, based on amount and type of refuse.
    Verifies that hauling permits are displayed on vehicles before allowing to dump; inspects and accepts or rejects waste; screens vehicles for hazardous waste.
    Accesses vehicle contents and determines proper disposal site; directs customer to correct dumping site.
    Collects fees, issues receipts, and deposits fees in bank; completes reports and forms for recording and tracking landfill fees.
    Compiles information, updates database, and prepares various computerized reports as assigned.
    Enters appropriate codes into Interface Logic System (ILS) computer software on a daily basis for Landfill computerized reports.
    Enters and retrieves data to monitor Landfill use according to refuse type, weight, volume, customer, and cost for receipts and reports.
    Receives telephone calls and relays messages by City radio system to other Landfill employees; provides information and answers questions from the public regarding the Landfill; notifies Landfill personnel to check for problem loads going to disposal sites.
    Enters daily transaction information into a computer; monitors the daily transactions and reports discrepancies to supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through the completion of high school, two (2) years of general clerical experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
  • Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
  • Must possess Arkansas Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) 1A License within one (1) year of employment; must possess Arkansas Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) 1B License within one (1) year of acquiring non-renewable 1A License.
