About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Ocean Import CSR Manager to join a global freight forwarding and logistics organization in Somerset, NJ.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing Ocean Import customer service operations while managing international shipments from origin through final delivery. The ideal candidate has extensive experience within an NVOCC or freight forwarding environment, strong knowledge of FCL and LCL Ocean Imports, and proven experience leading an Ocean Import team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage door-to-door FCL and LCL Ocean Import shipments from origin through final delivery.
- Oversee dispatch, trucking, shipment tracking, customs releases, and delivery coordination.
- Manage multiple customer accounts, shipments, and containers.
- Prepare and issue accurate and timely arrival notices.
- Coordinate with customs brokers to facilitate customs clearance.
- Work with ocean carriers, co-loaders, CFS facilities, steamship lines, trucking providers, and overseas agents.
- Provide pricing and quotes for ocean, rail, LCL, FCL, and ground transportation.
- Support global carrier and co-loader rate negotiations.
- Monitor on-water and rail movement of inbound shipments.
- Track and trace shipments and proactively communicate delays, exceptions, and delivery updates to customers.
- Troubleshoot shipment issues and coordinate solutions with internal and external partners.
- Reconcile and finalize import files and ensure accurate shipment data.
- Lead, coach, motivate, and provide constructive feedback to Ocean Import team members.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of Ocean Import experience within an NVOCC or freight forwarding environment.
- 3+ years of supervisory or management experience specifically within Ocean Import.
- Strong hands-on experience with FCL and LCL Ocean Imports.
- Strong knowledge of customs clearance coordination, carrier activity, and final delivery.
- Experience with tariff sheets, rate contracts, pricing, and quoting.
- Strong understanding of Ocean Import documentation and processes.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop team members.
- Strong customer service, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field.
