Job summary

Leschaco Inc. is seeking an Import Supervisor for our Jersey City, NJ office. You will lead the Import Department, oversee daily operations, and ensure accurate customs processing while building strong client relationships.

Ideal candidates bring 4+ years in freight forwarding or import, strong U.S. regulatory knowledge, and proven leadership. Expect a collaborative, fast-paced environment with opportunities to improve processes and service quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in freight forwarding, import, customs brokerage, or international logistics.
  • Strong knowledge of import operations and U.S. Customs regulations.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong customer-facing experience, with a proven ability to build relationships, communicate effectively, and deliver exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support the daily activities of the Import Department.
  • Monitor workloads and distribute assignments to ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Train and develop team members on import regulations, systems, procedures, and best practices.
  • Conduct performance management activities, including feedback and employee development.
  • Oversee import shipments from arrival through final delivery.
  • Ensure accurate preparation and processing of customs clearance documentation.
  • Coordinate customs entry filings, ISF filings, and other government agency requirements.
  • Obtain Customs and other regulatory releases and ensure timely cargo movement.
  • Arrange transportation, delivery, warehousing, and related logistics services.
  • Maintain compliance with U.S. Customs regulations and applicable domestic and international shipping requirements.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customers regarding import shipments.
  • Proactively communicate shipment status updates and resolve issues promptly.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ensure service commitments are met while delivering an exceptional customer experience.
  • Negotiate rates with trucking companies, warehouses, carriers, and service providers.
  • Respond to customer and agent rate requests.
  • Work closely with accounting to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure accurate invoicing.
  • Support department profitability through efficient operational management.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, quality standards, and security programs.
  • Maintain accurate shipment records and tracking information.
  • Support ISO, C-TPAT and Responsible Care compliance initiatives.
  • Promote continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and process excellence.

Leading Freight Forwarder / NVOCC/ Customs House Broker/ Tank Container Operator, with locations in 24 countries and over 3000 employees strong, is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to fill the position of Import Supervisor in our Jersey City, NJ Office.
