Job summary

Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford in Murfreesboro, TN seeks a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant to join the Rehabilitation department. You will work full-time days, implement treatment plans, monitor progress, and educate patients and families.

Required BLS within 30 days, Tennessee Board-credentialed COTA, and a high school diploma with experience or an associate/tech degree. The role offers comprehensive benefits and opportunities for professional growth.

• Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credentialed from the Tennessee Board of Occupational Therapy obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out the treatment plan using therapeutic activities and modalities to improve patient function.
• Observing patient response, documenting progress, and revising goals with the OT as needed.
• Educating patients and families about deficits and safe navigation of home environments.
• Helping patients select and use adaptive equipment and coordinating discharge to home or community programs.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Treatment Implementation: Carrying out the treatment plan using specific therapeutic activities and modalities (like heat, cold, or electrical stimulation) to improve patient function.
• Clinical Monitoring & Reporting: Observing the patient’s response to therapy, documenting progress, and collaborating with the OT to revise goals as the patient improves.
• Patient & Family Education: Teaching caregivers about a patient’s specific deficits and how to safely navigate their environment.
• Assistive Technology & Discharge: Helping patients select and use adaptive equipment (like reachers, shower chairs, or specialized utensils) and coordinating their transition to home or community programs.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credentialed from the Tennessee Board of Occupational Therapy obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate’s degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
