Job summary

The Pittsburgh VA Medical Center is seeking a Medical Support Assistant (MSA) in Nursing - Specialty to support physicians, nurses, and other care providers with scheduling, patient data entry, and clerical tasks. The role emphasizes accuracy, communication, and customer service in a fast-paced clinic environment.

The MSA will handle appointments, help with admissions and discharges, update patient records, and coordinate referrals to Specialty Services, ensuring timely, patient-centered care

Qualifications

• United States Citizenship required.
• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• English proficiency in speaking and writing.
• Two years of education beyond high school.
• Experience with scheduling appointments and coordinating care.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and patient data handling.
• Ability to operate computerized systems and protect patient information.

Responsibilities

• Answer phones, greet patients, relay messages, schedule appointments.
• Process admissions, discharges, travel arrangements, and medical orders.
• Enter and update demographics and patient information in records.
• Coordinate consultations and referrals to Specialty Services.
• Communicate with internal and external customers professionally.
