Job summary

Saugus Rehabilitation & Nursing Center is seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to lead nursing operations, hire and onboard staff, and ensure patient care meets regulatory standards. The ADON will collaborate with charge nurses and department managers to maintain staffing coverage and quality care across all shifts.

The role requires strong communication, knowledge of nursing best practices and healthcare laws, plus proficiency with EHRs.

• Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills to interact positively with staff, patients and families.
• Extensive knowledge of nursing best practices and healthcare laws at federal, state and local levels.
• Strong written communication skills to compile reports and evaluations.
• Analytical skills to interpret diagnostic information and financial data.
• Coaching skills to help nurses continue to improve their performance.
• Time management and multitasking to handle many tasks daily.
• Problem-solving skills to overcome obstacles in delivering patient care and ensuring staff coverage.
• Ability to use electronic health records, word processing, spreadsheet and email software.

Responsibilities

• Hiring new nurses and overseeing onboarding, including training or assigning to a trainer.
• Creating schedules to ensure adequate nursing coverage for every shift.
• Coaching nurses to improve performance and address discipline issues.
• Monitoring expenses to keep the facility within budgetary constraints.
• Holding staff meetings to discuss patient status and care plans.
• Conducting employee evaluations to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
• Making rounds to assess patient status and observe nursing care.
• Checking patient records to ensure accuracy and currency.
