Job summary

Advocate Health seeks a Nursing Assistant in our Med Surg unit. The role supports RNs in daily patient care, from hygiene to feeding and ambulation, and helps with admissions, transfers, and discharges.

You will document in the EMR, perform routine tasks, and assist with specimen collection and basic patient care under supervision. This position requires strong communication, reliability, and the ability to handle lifting and moving patients.

Qualifications

• Basic computer skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
• Certification Addendum / annual education requirements for hospital-based certifications (e.g. DNV, CARF or others).

Responsibilities

• Assists RN with daily care of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation.
• Measures and documents vital signs and daily data in EMR.
• Performs rounding under RN direction and communicates observations.
• Participates in admission, transfer and discharge processes under supervision of RN.
• Collects specimens and performs point-of-care testing as indicated.
• Runs errands and maintains nursing area stock; cleans equipment and work areas.
• Performs patient positioning and transport duties; assists with nutrition-related tasks.
• Maintains skin integrity and provides necessary supplies and devices.
