Job summary

The Nurse Supervisor (NM1) within the South Dakota Department of Corrections is responsible for implementing nursing policies and procedures that align with best practices and meet regulatory requirements.

They work closely with the Health Services Administrator (HSA) to promote high standards of care and support the professional development of nursing staff to provide quality care to patients in various clinical settings.

Qualifications

• Current, valid RN license from the South Dakota Board of Nursing or any state participating in eNLC.
• Three years of full-time patient-care experience as a Registered Nurse; a BSN may substitute for one year; a master's/doctorate may substitute for two years.
• Ability to supervise staff; excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication; ability to read and comprehend English; problem solving and critical thinking.

Responsibilities

• Review and ensure compliance with SD DOC policies, clinical standards, and nursing protocols.
• Monitor and facilitate progressive patient care through a team approach.
• Educate patients on self-care, treatment side effects, and medication use.
• Supervise licensed and unlicensed staff; manage shift coverage and scheduling.
• Maintain safety, inventory, and equipment; coordinate with other departments.
• Perform payroll, CPC check-ins, and daily clinic operations; participate in hiring and evaluations.
