UNC Health in Chapel Hill, NC is offering a Student Nurse Extern I opportunity within the Women’s Specialty Unit. This temporary full-time role provides prelicensure nursing students an immersive clinical experience alongside an RN partner, building foundational skills in patient care and teamwork.

Students enrolled in an accredited nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months are encouraged to apply.

Qualifikationen

• High school diploma or GED; current enrollment in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months.
• Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the NC Department of Health and Human Services
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Fluent in verbal and written English language
• Ability to organize and prioritize assignments in the delivery of patient care.
• Basic computer skills.
• Lift and carry 40-50 lbs; standing and walking frequently.

Aufgaben

• Observes, collects, and documents patient information and reports significant changes to a registered nurse or provider.
• Assists patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provides care/treatments per plan of care including vitals, wound care, glucose checks, etc.
• Provides direct personal care for activities of daily living.
• Provides indirect care such as cleaning, restocking supplies, transporting patients and materials.
• Reinforces routine teaching and documents patient understanding.
• Assists providers with routine examinations and procedures and supports equipment procurement during emergencies.
