UNC Health in Chapel Hill is offering a Student Nurse Extern I position for prelicensure nursing students to gain immersive clinical experience alongside an RN partner in a hospital and clinic setting.

The extern will provide routine patient care under direct supervision, assist with admissions, discharges, and daily living activities, and learn core nursing skills through hands-on practice with a focus on safety and patient comfort.

Formación

• High school diploma or GED is required; higher-level degree may satisfy this requirement.
• Current enrollment in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months from start of externship.
• Listed as Nursing Assistant I with NC Department of Health and Human Services.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• No specific prior professional experience required.

Responsabilidades

• Observe, collect, and document patient information; report significant changes to RN or provider.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide care including vital signs, measurements, specimen collection, simple wound care, and basic assistive care.
• Provide direct personal care for activities of daily living under plan of care.
• Provide indirect care such as maintaining clean work areas and restocking supplies.
• Reinforce routine teaching and assist with examinations and procedures under supervision.
