Job summary

F.D. Thomas is seeking a Safety Technician to join a large-scale nuclear-site project in Oak Ridge, TN. The role focuses on maintaining a safe, compliant work environment with direct collaboration with field leadership and operations.

Expect a 9–12 month assignment on a 6x10 schedule, with day and night shifts and built-in overtime. Candidates should bring hands-on safety experience and a strong commitment to safety in a regulated industrial setting.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of safety experience in industrial construction or similar regulated environments.
• OSHA 30 certification required; OSHA 500 preferred.
• Strong hazard recognition and risk assessment skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Knowledge of industrial hygiene sampling and safety programs.
• Ability to mentor field personnel and work with multiple teams.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and enforce safety compliance on the project.
• Conduct jobsite inspections and safety audits.
• Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist with JSAs and safety planning for tasks.
• Support fall protection, respiratory protection, confined space, and LOTO programs.
• Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
• Assist with industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring.
• Investigate accidents and document incidents.
• Evaluate PPE and safety systems for adequacy.
• Maintain safety documentation and site reports.
• Provide safety guidance to field personnel.
• Collaborate with field teams to mitigate hazards.
• Mentor and support field personnel in safe practices.
