Job summary

LLNL is seeking a Nuclear Facility Structural System Engineer to ensure the readiness of Hazard Category 2 and 3 building structures. You will support operations, maintenance, and significant R&D projects, providing system engineering for safety structures and ensuring alignment with DOE orders.

Qualifications

• Monitor the integrity and configuration of building structures to anticipate maintenance.
• Prepare system logs, surveillance reports, and assessment reports for facility management.
• Identify procurement needs and ensure adequate spare parts and materials.
• Provide engineering support for sustainment, repair, and modification of safety structures.
• Support significant R&D projects by applying knowledge to ensure safe, compliant solutions.
• Develop and implement solutions for moderately complex facility issues using engineering judgment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the integrity and configuration of building structures to anticipate maintenance, repair, or replacement needs.
• Prepare logs and detailed assessment reports; brief facility management on results.
• Provide engineering support for sustainment, repair, and modification of safety structures, systems and components.
• Support R&D projects with innovative, DOE-compliant solutions.
• Develop approaches for medium-complexity issues in operations and maintenance.
• Assess impacts from new construction, modifications, or HVAC/building renovations.
• Review procedures, work instructions and proposed modifications for technical adequacy and feasibility.
• Prepare and review design calculations, drawings and documents.
• Provide technical input to mid-level management and customers on system design and maintenance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
