Job summary

Mission Technologies in Newport News, VA is seeking an entry-level engineer for the Radiological Controls Engineering group embedded in Newport News Shipbuilding. You will support engineering, monitoring, training, radiation health, and emergency training for the Naval nuclear program.

The role offers exposure to nuclear systems design, testing, and related safety analysis, with opportunities for professional growth and a pathway to a security clearance.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited program degree completed.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (word processing, spreadsheets, graphics).
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and tests nuclear equipment and systems.
  • Conducts research on materials for nuclear reactors.
  • Studies radiation detection, control of radioactive contaminants, and waste disposal.
  • Analyzes fuel cycle to optimize material use and safety.
  • Performs radiation transport modeling and evaluates performance metrics.
  • Assesses technology options for safety, performance, cost improvements.
  • Work within Reactor Servicing, Overhaul Maintenance, and Fleet Support groups.
