Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a Polysomnographic Technician I for night shifts in the Sleep Medicine Center. This entry-to-mid level role performs comprehensive sleep testing and related interventions under clinical supervision, with potential for assisting in orientation of new technologists.

Shifts are 3x12-hour, 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., and the position requires a solid foundation in sleep technology, CPR/BLS, and strong communication to ensure patient

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required, BRPT credential preferred.
  • Two years of college or 1–2 years of polysomnography experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of a sleep technology program.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification required.
  • Demonstrated effective written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to move machines and patients weighing over 25 pounds.
  • Adherence to BRPT standards of conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Review medical history, medications, and study protocol before testing.
  • Calibrate and troubleshoot equipment; optimize data quality during recordings.
  • Explain procedures and orient patients and families by age-appropriate guidelines.
  • Perform physiological calibrations and adjust signals as needed.
  • Acquire data and monitor tracing quality; document artifacts.
  • Fit PAP masks and ensure patient safety during tests.
  • Document sleep stages, events, and procedural changes for interpretation.
  • Assist with scoring sleep/wake stages and clinical events per AASM standards.
  • Apply knowledge to various polysomnography scenarios and maintain service quality.
