Job summary

The Shelter Association of Washtenaw County seeks an Operations Specialist to support the Shelter Operations Team on a midnight shift (Sunday-Thursday, 12:00 am – 8:30 am) at the Delonis Center in Ann Arbor. You’ll help ensure guest safety, manage floor operations, and uphold SAWC’s mission to end homelessness.

Responsibilities include documenting services in HMIS, guiding volunteers, maintaining clean spaces, and enforcing policies.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or relevant certs in social services or human services.
• BS/BA in Social Work or related field preferred.
• 1–2 years experience in human services appreciated.
• Commitment to equity, ethics, and client privacy.

Responsibilities

• Commit to SAWC’s mission of ending homelessness.
• Interact with clients in a non-judgmental, ethical manner.
• Operate the assigned shelter floor per shift guides.
• Collaborate with and guide volunteers on the evening.
• Check in all current clients and monitor occupancy.
• Record services in HMIS with accuracy.
• Provide empathetic listening and general client assistance.
• Enforce SAWC policies and procedures.
• Document client information in records and staff notes.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the floor space.
• Welcome and orient new clients to rules and responsibilities.
• Be punctual and clock hours via time clock.
• Keep equipment (Narcan, badge, walkie-talkie, CPR shield) on hand.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
