Job summary

Qualifications

• Demonstrates knowledge and experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
• Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
• Keyboarding and typing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good listening skills.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Demonstrated customer service skills to interface effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, and other healthcare employees.

Responsibilities

• Verifies positive patient identification to ensure patient safety.
• Performs Venipuncture and collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients.
• Obtains specimens according to priority and scheduled draw times; ensures proper labeling and testing readiness.
• Performs limited testing under CLIA according to policies.
• Answers and screens telephone calls; assists with inventory and billing support.
• Accepts and processes specimens from various internal and external customers; tracks and transports specimens.
• Orders and verifies test requests; documents data for QA; runs quality control checks; notifies providers of abnormal results.
• Performs laboratory result entry in the computer system.
• Performs proficiency testing and distributes reports.
• Instructs employees and students in phlebotomy and specimen processing.
• Demonstrates age-appropriate patient care and understanding of life-span development.
