Job summary

Mercy Health seeks a Clinical Nursing Student for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Anderson Hospital to provide direct patient care under RN guidance. The role offers clinical exposure, shadowing, and hands-on support aligned with nursing scope and policies.

Responsibilities include vital signs, hygiene, mobility, and accurate documentation, with emphasis on teamwork, critical thinking, and patient safety in a night-shift setting.

Qualifications

• HS/GED (required) for the role.
• Currently enrolled in a nursing program and has completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation (required).
• Must have completed First Clinical Rotation as a Nursing Student and EPIC EHR training (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the RN, supports the nurse in applying the nursing process.
• Develops critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care.
• Provides basic patient care including vitals, hygiene, mobility, and daily living activities.
• Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns.
• Provides high-level customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff.
• Documents patient care accurately and timely.
• Participates in hand-offs and reports of patient needs on arrival and departure.
• Performs delegated tasks after competency validation.
• Collects patient data (vital signs, intake/output) and supports infection prevention and safety.
