Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician for night shifts in the Emergency Department. You will perform routine patient-care tasks, assist with activities of daily living, and support clinical staff with treatments and monitoring in a high-acuity environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school education or GED.
• Current Basic Life Support certification.
• Demonstrated competency attainment at the PCT II level; prior inpatient/outpatient care experience or clinical care training.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English clearly and concisely.
• Medical terminology knowledge; computer skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and provide exceptional service to patients.
• Proven problem-solving abilities for routine situations and ability to seek assistance when more direction is needed.
• Ability to remain calm when under stress or in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Communicate observations to the RN regarding patient changes, including vital signs and status.
• Provide constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned.
• Assist patients with daily living activities and mobility.
• Perform EKGs, point-of-care tests, and specimen handling per standards; phlebotomy where required.
• Assist RNs or practitioners with treatments, prepare equipment, and provide emotional support.
• Observe intake and output, manage feeding and ostomy care, and document accordingly.
• Support unit operations with supplies, equipment checks, and communication tasks.
