Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Tech III to support nursing and clinical teams in a high-acuity hospital setting. The role covers bedside care, vital signs, EKGs, specimen collection, and phlebotomy in certain locations.

Cross-training in telemetry, unit secretary duties, and remote video monitoring may apply in specified units. A BLS certification and strong communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Experience at PCT II level or 1 year acute care/hospital or EMT Paramedic experience.
• Able to read, write and communicate in English.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Proficiency with computers and EMR systems.
• Strong interpersonal skills for patient relations and teamwork.
• Proven problem-solving abilities and ability to stay calm under stress.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, timely communication to the RN regarding patient observations.
• Maintain constant observation of high-risk patients.
• De-escalate patient situations and assist with restraints per training.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living including hygiene, meals and mobility.
• Safely move, lift, position and transport patients.
• Perform vital signs and record measurements.
• Perform EKGs and Point of Care tests; collect and label specimens.
• Phlebotomy in certain locations.
• Assist RNs and practitioners with treatments and equipment setup.
• Monitor intake/output and manage tubing feeding where directed.
• Answer phones and relay messages; use department communications.
• Replenish supplies and keep logs up to date.
• Keep informed of department changes via communications.
