Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician I to support the CT Surgery Vascular Surgery unit in Galveston on the night shift. The role provides basic technical assistance and direct patient care under supervision.

The position requires completion of an approved Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, EMT, or related program (or equivalent experience) and BLS certification, with opportunities to grow skills in vital signs, venipuncture, EKGs, and wound care.

Qualifications

• Completion of one of the listed programs or two years of direct patient care experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
• Certified MA, PCT, or CNA at time of hire.
• Enrolled in a recognized School of Nursing with first semester completed.

Responsibilities

• Collects, reports, and documents data: vital signs, height/weight, intake/output, pulse oximetry, and specimens.
• Obtains blood samples by venipuncture.
• Acquires 12 lead EKG.
• Performs and reports POCT.
• Assists with patient activities and care as indicated by the plan of care.
• Cares for patients with privacy and infection control measures.
