Job summary

UTMB Health in League City, TX, is hiring a Patient Care Technician I for the 4S Med/Surg unit on nights. The role provides basic patient care and technical support under licensed staff.

Qualifications include high school diploma, completion of Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, EMT, or related programs, BLS, or two years of direct patient care experience, or active enrollment in nursing program.

Qualifications

• High school or equivalent AND completion of one of the following technical programs
• Licenses/registrations or certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Two years of direct patient care experience OR Certified MA, PCT, or CNA at time of hire OR enrolled in a recognized School of Nursing with first semester completed

Responsibilities

• Collects, reports, and documents data: Vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry, and collects specimens.
• Obtains blood samples by venipuncture.
• Acquires 12 lead EKG.
• Performs and reports POCT.
• Assists with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse/designee as indicated by the patient’s plan of care.
• Provides for patients’ personal hygiene: Bathes patients, performs oral suctioning and superficial wound care, assists with chronic wound care, provides skincare including TED hose, SCD, casts, pins, assists with elimination, cares for incontinent patients and catheterized patients, and assists with cleansing enema and ostomy care.
• Assists with feeding; ambulates, positions, and turns patients; supports mobility-impaired patients.
• Assists with patient safety, restraints, and safety precautions.
• Collects, reports, and documents data related to patient needs and emergencies and unusual patient/family behavior.
• Cares for the patient in a correctional environment.
• Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times.
• Provides and maintains a clean, safe environment and follows aseptic technique and infection control measures.
• Documents as appropriate and maintains patient care area supplies.
• Assists with patient requests for other hospital services.
