Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician I (PCT) in the Medicine Cardiology unit on Galveston nights. The role provides basic technical assistance and supportive patient care across assigned areas, in alignment with the patient’s plan of care.

Responsibilities include collecting vital signs, venipuncture, 12-lead EKG, POCT, and assisting with activities of daily living while maintaining privacy and infection control.

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Nurse Assistant program or equivalent.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant program or EMT/Medical Corpsman program or equivalent.
• Two years of direct patient care experience.
• Certified MA, PCT, or CNA at time of hire.
• Enrollment in a recognized School of Nursing with first semester completed including clinical concepts.

Responsibilities

• Collects, reports, and documents data such as vital signs, intake/output, and specimen collection.
• Obtains blood samples by venipuncture.
• Performs 12-lead EKG and POCT when indicated.
• Assist with patient activities and care per the plan of care.
• Maintain patient privacy and safety and ensure aseptic technique and infection control.
