Job summary

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) seeks a Patient Care Regular night shift nursing assistant at the 0241 - John Sealy Tower, Galveston, TX. The role provides basic technical assistance and supportive patient care across assigned areas.

Qualifications include completion of a recognized Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, EMT, or related program, or two years in direct patient care; enrollment in nursing school with first semester completed; and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Nurse Assistant program or equivalent.
• Two years of direct patient care experience or related clinical exposure.
• Certification as MA, PCT, or CNA at time of hire is acceptable.
• Enrollment in a recognized School of Nursing with first-semester clinical concepts completed.

Responsibilities

• Collect vital signs, height/weight, intake/output, pulse oximetry, and specimens.
• Obtain blood samples by venipuncture.
• Acquire 12-lead ECG.
• Perform and report POCT.
• Assist with patient activities and care per the plan of care.
• Provide for patient hygiene and basic comfort including wound care and catheter care.
• Assist with feeding and mobility; ensure patient safety.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality; uphold infection control procedures.
• Document patient data and requests; maintain clean care areas.
• Support care for patients in a correctional environment.
