Job summary

The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston is seeking a patient care professional to provide basic technical assistance and supportive patient care across assigned areas.

Responsibilities include collecting vital signs, venipuncture, EKG, POCT, and assisting with feeding, hygiene, mobility, safety, and infection control, as directed by the plan of care. Maintains patient privacy and documents properly.

Qualifications

• Completion of Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical Corpsman, or EMT program, or two years of direct patient care experience, or active enrollment in nursing school with first clinical semester completed.
• Licensed/certified MA, PCT, or CNA at time of hire.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Collect, report, and document data including vital signs, height/weight, intake/output, pulse oximetry, and specimens.
• Obtain blood samples by venipuncture and perform 12 lead EKG.
• Perform and report POCT and assist with patient activities per plan of care.
• Provide for personal hygiene, feeding, mobility, safety, and comfort of patients.
• Maintain privacy, infection control, and proper aseptic technique.
• Document appropriately and maintain clean, stocked patient care areas.
• Assist with requesting other hospital services as needed.
