University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to support nursing units under the supervision of an RN. The role focuses on basic nursing care, comfort, hygiene, nutrition, and vital signs, with emphasis on patient safety and confidentiality.

The position requires a High School diploma or GED, a CENA certification or active enrollment in a health science program, and a current BLS/CPR certification. Night shifts with weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current Certified Nurse Aide (CENA) certification, or
• Current enrollment in a health science program with nursing fundamentals course and/or clinical rotation preferred; equivalent enrollment considered.
• Equivalent experience in healthcare roles (Medical Assistant, Paramedic, EMT, etc.) may be considered.
• Basic understanding of Medical Terminology, Anatomy, Physiology and patient confidentiality preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) provider required.
• Experience in acute or extended care facility preferred.
• Able to complete unit-specific core competencies as defined in orientation.

Responsabilités

• Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide patient comfort, including bed management, turning, positioning, ambulation, transfers and ROM.
• Assist with hygiene activities.
• Support catheter care (excluding insertion/removal) and care for dressings, ileostomy/colostomy.
• Assist with postmortem care.
• Aid nutrition by passing trays, feeding, and recording intake.
• Assist with elimination, input/output and drainage management.
• Collect and label specimens and perform basic point-of-care tests (glucometer).
• Measure and record vital signs and weight using appropriate scales.
• Safely operate equipment (oxygen, suction, spirometry, heating/cooling devices) and maintain supplies.
• Follow infection control practices and standard precautions.
• Document care as directed by RN and communicate observations effectively.
• Stay aligned with RN guidance and participate in department efficiency initiatives.
