Job summary

IU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician for a full-time night shift to provide compassionate bedside care and support to patients. The PCA will assist with meals, hydration, mobility, baths, and linen changes while coordinating with the bedside RN to monitor vital signs and report concerns.

The role emphasizes patient safety, adherence to infection control, and ability to work in a fast-paced hospital environment, with opportunities for development and tuition reimbursement.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or completion of IU Health PCA education program.
• Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients served.
• Up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide bedside care and assist with meals, drinks, and ambulation.
• Assist with baths, linen changes, and gowning to maintain comfort and dignity.
• Obtain vital signs and report abnormalities or changes to the RN or charge nurse.
• Maintain patient safety using gait belts, alarms, and staying within arm's reach.
• Support RN and care team to detect and respond to changes in patient condition.
