Job summary

UMass Memorial Health Marlborough is seeking a Patient Care Technician III to support nursing care under licensed clinicians. The role emphasizes observation, vitals, specimen collection, and patient comfort across units.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and current BLS certification. Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living, monitoring high-risk patients, and performing EKGs and point-of-care tests.

Qualifications

• High school education or GED required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Competency at PCT II level with inpatient/outpatient care experience or clinical training.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and basic computer use.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients and team.
• Proven problem-solving abilities and ability to stay calm under stress.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care under supervision of a licensed clinician.
• Communicate observations and changes to the RN promptly.
• Monitor high-risk patients as assigned.
• Assist with daily living activities and patient comfort.
• Assist in moving and transporting patients with proper technique.
• Record vitals, height/weight and conduct standard measurements.
• Perform EKGs, point-of-care tests and bladder scanning as required.
• Phlebotomy in select locations; prepare specimens for labs.
• Assist in treatments, set up equipment and provide emotional support.
